For some, hearing the music their parents listened to evokes the image of people sitting around the old quadrophonic stereo or the record player, while for the students of Lee County School District (LCSD) it might look a lot more modern.
There will be an opportunity for the students to share those images in the inaugural Art Contest of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The theme is “My Parents – Their Music” and it is designed to honor the heritage of music passed down by parents and even grandparents. Students are asked to illustrate in a painting, drawing or by photograph their interpretation of the music of their ancestors (parents or grandparents). The meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at LCSD, 310 Roland Street in Bishopville.
First place prize is $75; 2nd place is a $50 gift card; and 3rd place is a $25 gift card. The first place winner’s work will be displayed at the LCSD Office.
The contest is yet another resource LCSD is utilizing to support the framework for building capacity in schools, homes and communities. The gathering of the Council is for parents, educators and other leaders to synergize their passions, talents and energy to strengthen the community.
Only one entry per student is allowed and the students must be currently enrolled or home schooled. Originally, only open to high schoolers, the contest is now open to students of ALL ages. The registration, application and photo of the art piece must be submitted and received by the LCSD Office no later than Friday, March 15, 2019. The artwork must be delivered to the District Office by Friday, March 22, 2019.
