Joan Talley of Columbia, SC donated 3,006 used children’s books to Lee County Schools this week. Talley has been collecting children’s books for two and a half years and donates them to rural school districts that have a demonstrated need. Her giving is directed by Dr. Randall Gary, superintendent of schools for Lexington Three. Talley, who gained a love for reading later in life, hopes the donations will foster that love in students sooner. Lee County School District is one of 11 to receive a portion of the more than 71,000 books she has donated across the state.
(L-R): Dr. Wanda Andrews, superintendent Lee County School District and Talley.
