Multilingual Learner (ML) Program

Lee County School District Multilingual Learners Program

Supporting Students, Empowering Families

Lee County School District is committed to providing high-quality instruction and support for students whose first language is not English. Our Multilingual Learners (ML) Program helps students gain the language skills needed to succeed in school while celebrating the rich cultural and linguistic diversity they bring to our classrooms.

About the Program

The Multilingual Learners Program provides:

  • English Language Development (ELD): Lessons to strengthen listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Teacher: Teachers to support language acquisition while ensuring access to grade-level content.

  • Cultural Connections: A learning environment that values students’ languages, traditions, and identities.

Who We Serve

Students qualify for ML services if:

  • Their home language survey indicates a language other than English is spoken at home.

  • They are identified through the state-approved English language screener: WIDA Access Screener.

  • They continue receiving services until they demonstrate English proficiency on the annual ACCESS for ELLs test.

Our Goals for Students

  • Achieve English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Succeed in all academic content areas with appropriate support.

  • Graduate ready for college, careers, and lifelong learning.

  • Develop pride in their bilingual and bicultural identities.
